Varya's Story
Varya is from Stepanakert. In 2023, after a forced relocation, she settled in Vagharshapat with her husband and five children. The family rented an apartment and began to rebuild their lives.
Almost her entire life, Varya worked with children. For 17 years she was a nanny, helping other families raise their little ones and truly loving her work. She is a simple woman who for many years cared for others, and now she needs support herself.
Varya's health problems have been present for a long time — since 2017 she lived with chronic kidney disease. But in 2024, during an examination, doctors discovered a malignant tumor in the right kidney. Metastases had already spread to the lymph nodes. In February 2025, the right kidney had to be completely removed.
Now all the burden has fallen on the left kidney, which was already sick from the start. It currently functions at only 29%.
To preserve its functions and prevent a transition to heavy dialysis, doctors at the Fanarjyan National Oncology Center prescribed Varya immunotherapy. The drug "MabThera" is now vitally important for her.
Before this, the family managed on their own. About three million drams were spent on the operation and previous courses of treatment. Varya gave all the family savings, the family took on debts, and the eldest son took out loans. But now the resources are completely exhausted.
The next course is scheduled for November 2026. We are raising 830,000 drams: 750,000 is the cost of the medicine itself, and 80,000 will go toward the hospital room rental. If this course is missed, the only kidney will simply fail.
